Kwame Bonsu, a Ghanaian football player in Sweden's second division has been jailed.
The 22-year-old man was sentenced to two years in prison by a Swedish court on Friday for molesting and beating his wife.
According to a report from Gistmania France Presse, AFP, after serving its sentence, 22-year-old Kwame Bonsu, who played for the Gefle IF club, will be expelled from the Scandinavian country where he has lived since 2013, the district of Gavle Dijo Court.
Gefle said Friday that Bonsu was fired from the team with immediate effect.
He will also have to pay 245,000 crowns (at least 25,000 euros, $ 28,000) in compensation to his wife, who is a Swedish national.
He met her for the first time in 2014 when he was playing in the southern Swedish town of Mjolby. They married the following year.
A few months after the wedding he signed a transfer to the town of Gavle, located about 300 kilometers (190 miles) from Mjolby.
Bonsu's wife had wanted him to stay to continue his studies.
The victim said rape and beatings occurred in the couple's apartment for one night in November 2015, when he had refused to let her leave.
Bonsu repeatedly denied the charges, but the testimony of his wife's relatives led the court to believe the victim's version of the events.
