These throwback photos of Senator Shehu Sani in Kirikiri prison tells the story of his fight against bad rulers and the support for the emergence of democracy.
These are photos of Comrade Shehu Sani, then the Vice Chairman of the Campaign for Democracy who was imprisoned in 1995 by the military government for rooting for democracy.
He was charged with treason and managing unlawful society and was implicated in the 1995 phantom coup during General Sani Abacha's regime. After being jailed for life, his sentence was later commuted to 15 years by the chairman of Special Military Tribunal, late Major-General Patrick Aziza who died in 2014.
Today, Sani is a Senator representing Kaduna Central constituency in the Senate.
