The news comes from a Chinese manufacturer.
Start your salivating, Apple devotees, because a huge shift is reportedly in store for the iPhone 8.
We’re talking more of a long shift, actually, as the newest iPhone will have a new, stretched-out shape that’s longer than ever. With an 18:5:9 aspect ratio, it’ll be the same size as the Samsung Galaxy S8 and the LG G6. And by killing the home button as well, there will be even more room for a big ol' screen.
The leak comes from China’s Economic Daily News, as reported by DigiTimes. The Chinese newspaper says it has sources from iPhone chipset maker TSMC that confirm the longest iPhone yet. Between the new ratio and the abandonment of the home button, set to be replaced by touch ID within the display, it’s clear Apple is aiming for a bigger display without having to go wider than you can hold.
As always, there will also be a camera upgrade for the new iPhone. The iPhone 8 will “come with invisible infrared sensors to enhance the functionality of [the] high-pixel camera and to enable AR applications."
Now the worst part is waiting. We likely won’t hear anything official about the iPhone 8 until September.
