An arrest has been made in the killing of an 11-year-old New Jersey girl who was found dead Thursday morning.
Neighbor Andreas Erazo, 18, has been charged with murder in the death of Abbiegail Smith, whose body was found in "the back area" of the Hancock Arms Apartments in Keansburg, where she lived with her mother.
Authorities had called the child's death an "isolated crime" and urged area parents not to fear for their kids' safety.
Smith was last seen in her apartment at about 7:45 p.m. on Wednesday.
"We were really hopeful that we would find her," Prosecutor Christopher Gramiccioni said Thursday, according to NBC 4. "It's a punch in the gut for all of us here in the community, especially in law enforcement."
Investigators work at the scene where the girl's body was found.
Erazo is expected to appear in court later Friday.
Authorities are awaiting autopsy results to determine how she died.
