    Alvaro Morata.

As one striker prepares to leave Stamford Bridge this summer, another is set to arrive for £58 million.

Chelsea and Real Madrid have both announced a fee has been agreed for the signing of Alvaro Morata - one month after he came close to joining Manchester United.

Diego Costa had already been given the green light to return to Atletico Madrid by Antonio Conte, who has wasted no time in finding a replacement.

Signing Morata wasn't part of the script, of course, given Chelsea's board wanted Conte to bring in Romelu Lukaku, but they can hardly complain.

According to Spanish football expert Guillem Balague, Conte decided against pursuing Lukaku due to fears the Belgian doesn't work hard enough off the ball.

Balague's claim somewhat contradicts recent reports that Conte was left furious when Lukaku rejected Chelsea for United, but the past is the past.

What the future holds for Chelsea could be very exciting following a spending spree that has also seen Antonio Rudiger and Tiemoue Bakayoko join for approximately £60 million.

Further reinforcements are needed if they're to successfully defend their Premier League title, but we're not even a month into the transfer window and Conte has already worked wonders.

Chelsea fans have discovered what shirt numbers Rudiger (2) and Bakayoko (14) will wear for the 2017/18 season, so now they're wondering what's in store for Morata.

Costa's No.19 jersey will soon become available, while No.8, No.9, No.20 and No.25 are also vacant.

However, there is one shirt number that Chelsea fans are begging the club to not give Morata when he eventually completes his move from Spain.

That shirt is the No.9 - and the reason? Because Chelsea have an wretched history when it comes to strikers wearing the famous jersey.

Not since Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has a Chelsea player really lived up to the hype of being No.9, with Fernando Torres and Radamel Falcao the most recent to wear it.

Before them, Mateja Kezman, Hernan Crespo, Khalid Boulahrouz, Steve Sidwell and Franco Di Santo all struggled while wearing the jersey.

There are rumours - albeit unconfirmed ones (see below) - that Morata will be given the No.9, and now Chelsea fans are all saying the same thing: don't do it.

History doesn't bode well for Morata if he accepts the No.9 shirt, but the Spaniard is regarded as a top-class striker and could be the man to break the curse.
