Just six months after the death of her dad, Super Falcons coach Florence Omagbemi has suffered the loss of her son who drowned.
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) on Thursday, June 15 announced the death of Omagbemi’s son, Samson.
The 15-year-old according to Timi Ebikagboro, the media officer of the Nigeria U-23 team, died on Wednesday, June 14 alongside a classmate in a swimming pool at a hotel in Effurun, Delta State.
The tragic incident happened during an 'after exam party' at the Golden Tulip hotel which was organised by a teacher at Challenge International School, Kolokolo Udu Road, Warri.
“Our prayers are with @NGSuper_Falcons Head Coach, Florence Omagbemi who lost her son, Samson, on Wednesday. May his soul rest in peace,” then NFF said on Twitter.
These are tough times for the Delta State born coach who lost her dad, a retired civil servant who died in December last year.
The 42-year-old coach rushed to Warri immediately for the funeral just after returning from Cameroon where she led the Super Falcons to win the 2016 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations (AWCON).
With that win, she became the first person to win the AWCON as a player and a coach.
Samson is Omagbemi’s son from a previous relationship before she got married.
Unfortunately, her husband died in 2009 after a brief illness while she was away in the United States.
She didn’t have any child with her late husband although she is the parent to the son of her late elder sister.
